Career Stories/Super Summer Story Party

"I haven't felt this light in years"

Yesterday, I spoke with a client who started the call saying, "I'm not good with confidence, and I'm scared of making the wrong career decision."

I said, "Thanks for sharing that with me. I'd love to hear your stories."

Two stories and 10 minutes later, she was laughing and said, "I haven't felt this light in years."

By the end of the call, she knew what she was good at, she felt more confident, and she knew what she needed to do next.

She ended the call with, "This is the best thing I have done for myself in five years."

It's time to know and share your stories

You know that stories are one of the most successful ways to connect with others.

They're also a great way to connect with yourself.

Over 2.5 weeks, I will help you wend your stories into a usable career brand imbued with all your amazingness. And, then teach you how to share your stories to reach your career goals.

The Super Summer Story Party is for you if:

  • You've heard that using stories is the best way to build your career brand, but you need help selecting stories and how to tell them

  • You are overlooked for opportunities like speaking gigs, promotions, participating in industry panels, or getting clients. You feel like you have something to offer, but others can't see it.

  • You've read and attended all the free storytelling webinars online and can't put yours together in the right way. You're ready to invest in learning about stories with private support from a story coach.

  • You want to leave a great impression through your work. You want people to hear your stories and be excited about what you offer.

  • You want a story strategy you can believe in and can build off of. With a solid foundation, you can build anything.

  • You want a program where you take the time to develop a skill, not a quick fix or hack. You know that stories take work and effort and are ready to do the work

then this story party is for you.

Why I made this program

I made this program after witnessing the results people got when I analyzed their career stories in a private call vs. being in a group program where they got limited feedback.

I've been teaching storytelling for over 20 years, and while I'm proud of my book, and the online classes I teach, I know that the best way to help people improve their stories is to provide them with a safe place to test ideas, get feedback, and develop their story skills.

I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun to kick off the summer by giving people the gift of knowing their career brand and help them tell better stories this summer?"

How it works.

This online course runs June 11 - 30.

Module 1: Story Gathering, June 11 - 17

  • We'll have a kick-off call on June 11 at 10:00 am CST to introduce ourselves.

  • You'll spend the rest of the week gathering your career stories. Plan for 30 minutes of work a day towards this process.

Module 2: Building out our source story  + your Private Career Analysis call: June 18 - 24

You'll book a private call me where you'll share your stories and I'll analyze them to find the common thread, themes, and skills. I'll write up your career brand, including ways to use it, and send it to you.

You'll get webinar training on how to build a source story using your career brand.  Here's info on a source story.

By the end of the week, you'll have a source story you can share on your LinkedIn summary, company "About Page", your blog, or your resume.

Module 3: Using Story Science To Crafting Three Stories (June 25 - June 30)

You'll craft three stories that support your career brand. You'll be guided on how to develop these stories, how to decide the best way to share them, and get feedback on all your stories.

About Story Types

In a story strategy, there are 10 types of stories.  Each story reinforces the career brand (that's what you get through the private call with me).

In this course, you'll develop a source story + 3 other stories.

I'll teach you the full 10 story types and we'll choose which three to use for your July content.

By June 30th, you'll have:

- a career story you love
- a solid source story to use in multiple contexts, like LinkedIn, your bio, networking or interview introductions, resume, or company "About Page"
- an understanding of the 10 types of stories and when to use them
- three ready-to-share stories (this could be your July content)
- the knowledge of what makes a great story and how to craft a narrative
- the ability to spot story opportunities in your everyday life
- feedback on what your personal storytelling strengths are and how to best use them

Live call dates

The program runs June 11 - June 30, 2021

June 11 at 10 am CST - Meet the donut

In theatre, on the first day of a play rehearsal all the administrative, production, and artistic staff would meet and have coffee and donuts together. We called it "Meet the Donut." This is a group call to introduce yourself and meet your storytelling peers.

June 19 - 23 (various times) Private Career Analysis session with me

Join me on a private call where you can share your career stories with me (don't worry, I give you a process for finding those).  On this call, I listen to your stories, ask questions, and learn about what makes you awesome. I'll listen with delight and interest. After our call, I'll send you a write-up about the common themes in your story, and what I think your career brand is.

June 24 at 7:00 pm CST - Live storytelling practice

This group workshop is a chance for you to share your source story with us and get feedback. The group is small (only 12 people). And you can share your written or spoken story. You'll get immediately useful feedback about what was great, and what to improve. We learn by doing.

June 30th at 9:00 am CST - Storytelling Circle

In this last session, you'll have a chance to share your new stories with the group. We'll say goodbye and you'll be ready to launch your stories strategy.

In addition to the live calls, you'll get access to short training videos and worksheets, suggested readings, and feedback through the group forum.

The Career Analysis session

A private career analysis session is included in this program.

I often hear this feedback about a career analysis session:

"This is the best $1,000 I've ever spent."

"Kerri, I've never felt so seen and understood professionally. I wish I met you 10 years ago. All the things I thought I had to hide are actually what I need to show." (Amazingly, this client landed a job and was promoted to a director role 8 months later because he understood his strengths and how to share them).

"You are so good for my ego."

"This kind of felt like a therapy session, but instead of processing the feedback alone, I feel like sharing my story with everyone."

The best service I offer is this private session.
